Welcome to the MBRS-RISE Program 2009-2010 at the
University of Puerto Rico at Humacao

The
purpose of the MBRS-RISE (Minority Biomedical Research
Support-Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement)
Program is to enhance the research environment at
minority-serving institutions. The overall goal is to
increase the interest, skills, and competitiveness of
faculty and students in pursuit of Biomedical Research
careers.
The MBRS-RISE Program at the University of Puerto Rico at
Humacao provides research opportunities for undergraduate
minority students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics,
Mathematics, among others. The selected students are
offered certain financial stipends during their
participation in the Program. This Program is designed to
promote the interest of our students in Biomedical Research
careers, strengthen students' research competence, prepare
the participating students for graduate school, and enhance
the capability of the faculty for participation in
Biomedical Research. Additionally, prominent researchers
from prestigious universities are often invited to give
scientific conferences. Representatives from numerous
institutions are also invited to speak about their
universities and the admission process. Overall,
MBRS-RISE's Program at the University of Puerto Rico at
Humacao is a great opportunity for students wishing to
pursue a Ph.D. degree in the area of Biomedical Research.
